An open Gather mailer with three spice packets, a recipe card, and a finished plate of parmesan chicken with bacon cream and charred broccoli

You know how this goes.

A new recipe means $40 of jars you'll use once.

The rest goes stale in the back of the fridge.

So the same eight dinners stay on rotation.

Trying something new should be the fun part.

We take care of the hard parts.

Real flavor, not filler

Your packet

cayenne pepper, dried red pepper flakes, ground cardamom, ground coriander, ground cumin, ground garam masala, ground smoked paprika, ground turmeric.

A jar

Water, tomato puree, cream, modified corn starch, soybean oil, sugar, dehydrated onion, “spices,” “natural flavor.”

$4 a recipe. A jar runs about the same. One of them is mostly water.

Tear, pour, done.

No measuring spoons, no pantry archaeology, nothing extra to wash.

Nothing goes to waste.

Your recipes share one shopping list, so the whole bunch of cilantro gets used.

We talk you through it.

Every step tells you what to look for. Color, smell, texture, not just a timer.

HOW IT WORKS

The idea behind Gather

Some of the best hours of my life were spent at a dinner table in rural Indiana.

My dad usually cooked, sometimes my mom. As my sister and I got older, we cooked too. Carrying the food out was the thing that pulled everyone else into the room, and then nobody left. We talked about the day, about ideas we'd had, about nothing in particular. The plates were empty long before we were.

Then I left Indiana, and I found flavors that corn and potatoes had never prepared me for. Smoked paprika. Vietnamese cinnamon. The first time a Sichuan peppercorn buzzed my tongue numb I put my chopsticks down to ask what that was (mala, or the numbing half of it). None of it replaced anything. It just gave the table more to talk about.

Bringing food to a table is an act of love. That is why Gather exists, and it is the one part of this we are never going to change.
